A major highway safety initiative in the eastern part of Salem County resulted in the arrest of 17 people and 166 motor vehicle citations being issued, according to the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office.
Dubbed “Operation Safe Travels,” the prosecutor’s office partnered with the Salem County Sheriff’s Office, Elmer Police Department and the New Jersey State Police in the two-week initiative May 11 through May 22.
Results of the joint effort were announced on Friday.
The main goal of the operations was to have law enforcement agencies work together to make area highways safer ahead of the unofficial start of the 2015 summer season.
In addition to the citations and arrests, 159 warnings were issued.
Officers from the partner agencies worked to raise awareness, to educate the public, and to enforce motor vehicle violations on main thoroughfares of Elmer andPittsgrove and Upper Pittsgrove townships, officials said.
According to research dating back to 2012, these towns represent the locations of 33 percent of Salem County’s fatal and serious motor vehicle accidents. Of these accidents, 72 percent occurred between May and September.
The high-intensity patrols were conducted on U.S. Route 40 and nearby county roads in the three municipalities. The operation was conducted both day and night.
Additionally, 17 subjects were arrested for a variety of offenses including outstanding warrants to insurance fraud and drug possession.
Those taken into custody included:
• Emmanuel T. Anderson, 30, of Elmer was charged with two counts of possession of prescription drugs. Anderson was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in default of $20,000 bail.
• Michelle Danemhower, 49, of Elmer was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and theft. She was processed and released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Angel Acevedo, 22m of Elmer was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Acevedo was processed and released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Danielle Repenning, 24, of Elmer was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Repenning was processed and released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Emmanuel T. Anderson, 35, of Elmer was arrested and charged with simple assault. Anderson was served with a summons complaint and released pending a court appearance.
• Ephraim Carrasquillo Jr., 44, of Upper Pittsgrove was arrested and charged with four counts of tampering with public records, insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Carrasquillo was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Marisol Santiago Hernandez, 38, of Upper Pittsgrove was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Hernandez was processed and released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Edward T. Bucholski III, 26, of Elmer was arrested and charged with simple assault. Bucholski was served with a summons complaint and released pending a court appearance.
• Mark J Hallquist, 51, of Pittsgrove was arrested and charged with driving while his license was suspended for a DUI. Hallquist was processed and released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Donald J Palm Jr., 38, of Pittsgrove was arrested on an outstanding warrant for $500 from the county regional court. Palm was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Renay Ecret, 39, of Alloway was arrested on an outstanding warrant in the amount of $350.00 from the Upper Deerfield Municipal Court. Ecret was released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• James S. Vidovic, 53, of Franklinville was charged with aggravated assault on EMS personnel. Vidovic was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in default of $12,500 bail.
• John R. Casaletto, 39, of Elmer was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Additionally, he had an outstanding warrant from the Seaside Heights Municipal Court in the amount of $500.00. Casaletto was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
• Nicholas J. Mendibles-Evans, 23, of Vineland was arrested on outstanding warrants from the Cumberland County Superior Court and Vineland Municipal Court. Mendibles-Evans was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
• Adam Z. Turin, 24, of Pittsgrove was arrested and charged with theft of prescription narcotics and possession of prescription legend drugs. Additionally, he was found to have an outstanding warrant from the Camden City Municipal Court. Turin was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in default of $21,000.00 bail.
• Brandi L. Kanavel, 29, of Sewell was arrested and charged with insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Kanavel was processed and released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
