A man suffered what authorities are calling life-threatening injuries after being shot early Monday in the city. The shooting took place on Olive Street between Wesley and East Broadway around 12:20 a.m.

The 19-year-old Salem City resident, whose name was not released, was found in the street and was airlifted to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del. His condition was not available Monday morning, but authorities did say his wounds were life-threatening.

Authorities did not immediately say how many times the man was shot. Police are still searching for the shooter.

On Oct. 2, a man was seriously wounded when he was shot in the back while standing on the corner of Olive Street and East Broadway, not far from Monday’s incident.

That victim was standing with a group of people when he was hit. It was not clear whether he was the intended target, police said at the time. No suspect has yet been arrested yet in that case.

Monday’s shooting is being investigated by the Salem City Police Department and the Salem County prosecutor’s Office.
