Qualifications
Due to the very selective and highly competitive nature of the positions in our office, a limited number of opportunities are offered each year. Only individuals possessing outstanding character and a high degree of motivation will be selected. In order to be considered for a position, individuals must meet the following minimum criteria at the time of the application.
- Must be a Salem County Resident
- Must be between 21 and 35 years old, a US. citizen and hold a valid driver’s license
- Candidates can either have (1) a Bachelor’s Degree OR alternatively, (2) an Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits, plus at least two years of satisfactory employment OR
alternatively, (3) have completed 30 college credits plus at least two years of active duty military service with an honorable discharge. - Candidates must successfully pass a background investigation, drug screening, psychological test and an interview, to be considered for a sworn position.

About Us
The Salem County Prosecutor’s Office is the chief law enforcement agency in the County and its primary function is to prosecute individuals charged with committing crimes in Salem County. The Office also provides leadership and supervision to the Chiefs of Police and Municipal Prosecutors in order to effectively enforce the criminal laws and the administration of criminal justice throughout Salem County.
Our Office is staffed with Assistant Prosecutors, Detectives, Administrative Staff and clerical personnel, and is organized into three divisions: Legal, Investigative and Clerical.
The Legal Division represents the State of New Jersey and is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases against suspected individuals. The Legal Division includes two teams that are spearheaded by a First Assistant Prosecutor, a Forfeiture Unit, Juvenile Unit and work closely with the Office of Victim Witness Advocacy.
The Investigative Division investigates crimes and works hand-in-hand with the Legal Division in order to prepare cases for criminal prosecution. The Investigative Division includes Violent Crimes/Gangs, Guns, Narcotics Task Force, Sex Crimes/Megan’s Law Unit, Computer Crimes Unit, Fugitive Unit, Insurance Fraud Unit, Professional Standards Unit, Critical
Infrastructure Coordinator, Counter-Terrorism Unit and a Community Partnership Unit.
The Administrative/Clerical Staff oversees the daily operations of the Legal and Investigative Division. Additionally, the administrative/clerical staff is responsible for employment, fiscal matters, community outreach and managing case files from intake to completion; as well as logistical and clerical support for the office.
